AFTER-CARE COUNSELOR

About Peas:

Peas is a community space for families. More than just a play space - we're meant to feel like a home away from home with built in support for young families. We offer open play, a self service coffee bar, drop-off care (babysitting), enrichment classes, birthday parties, and more. Our goal is to be a space that feels safe, joyful, and community-centered, where kids can flourish and parents feel supported.

We recently launched an after-school partnership program with local preschools, offering flexible pickup and babysitting for families who need care after school lets out. Our staff walk to partner schools, safely bring kids to Peas, and provide snack, play, and a calm space until pickup.

Who we’re looking for:

Our After-Care Counselor is the trusted presence families count on every afternoon. This role combines hands-on childcare with real responsibility, from walking kids safely from their preschool to Peas, to keeping them engaged, safe, and cared for until pickup.

Things don't always go perfectly, a child who's having a tough afternoon, a late pickup, a change in plans. We need someone who takes these in stride: patient, attentive, and never rattled. If you take pride in caring for kids well and staying calm under pressure, this role is for you.

  • Supervise kids during snack time and open play in our indoor play space

  • Manage snack-time, crafts, and play activities

  • Support kids in our low-sensory calm-down room as needed

  • Check families out at pickup and communicate warmly with parents

  • Help set up, clean up, and reset the space

Must Haves:

  • Prior experience in a daycare, nanny position, or other professional childcare setting preferred; babysitting and camp counselor experience will also be considered

  • Dependable and consistent, this role requires a reliable weekly commitment

  • Strong judgment and safety awareness when supervising a group

  • Warm, clear communicator with both children and parents

  • Comfortable walking with kids to/from local preschools using our all-weather strollers

  • Reliable transportation to our Nyack location
